Bio
I am a Ph.D. candidate in Political Science at Kent State University (U.S.A.). My dissertation studies electoral politics and voting behavior in the post-Soviet countries, with focus on Central Asia.

My educational background includes undergraduate degree in History which I received in 1993 from the Kyrgyz National University (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan), and Master of Science degree in Politics from the University of Edinburgh (Edinburgh, the UK, 2000-2001). Also, I was educated at the Public Administration Institute for Turkey and the Middle East (1995-96, 1997-98, Ankara, Turkey), and participated in various educational projects of the Open Society Institute (Bishkek - Budapest - New York).

As for my professional background, I worked for the Presidential Administration in Kyrgyzstan (Department of Social Policy, 1994 – 1995, long before the Tulip Revolution :), taught at the American University in Central Asia (Department of International and Comparative Politics, 1998 – 2004), and worked for the TACIS Kyrgyz Civil Service Reform project (Bishkek, 2005).

I also worked as a campaign manager and consultant in the local and parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan in Fall 2004/Winter 2005, and was one of the pro-democracy activists during the Tulip Revolution in Kyrgyzstan, March – August 2005, before my arrival to the USA to begin my Ph.D. studies in political science at Kent State University, Kent, Ohio.

My primary research interests include the politics of Central Asia/post-Soviet region; identity, ethnicity and nationalism; state capacity and institutions; electoral politics and voting behavior; comparative public administration and policy making.

Among my publications in English, the four most recent are as follows:

-- Youth and Education in Central Asia in Light of the EU Strategy in the Region (co-authored with Martha Merill). In THE EUROPEAN UNION and CENTRAL ASIA, edited by Jenniver Sehring and Alexander Warkotsch (Routledge 2009, forthcoming)

-- Book Review: Kazakistan'ın Yeniden Doğuşu: 1986 Aralık Olayları [Rebirth of Kazakhstan: The December 1986 Events]. By Abdulvahap Kara. Istanbul: Ufuk Ötesi Yayınları, 2006. 176 pp. In CENTRAL ASIAN SURVEY, Vol. 26, Issue 3, (September, 2007), pp.450-453.

P.S.:
